The First Post

Welcome to Banksy Films

I'm David and this is my blog where I talk about movies and television, and everything in-between. For as long as I can remember I've loved watching movies and television; from Aladdin and The Lion King when I was little to growing up watching the Harry Potter series and Doctor Who. I don't know how many times I've watched those films. Since then, my love of film and television has transcended just the viewing experience as I now love diving into the subtext of films and their productions, which has inspired me to not only start this blog, but also to go to university and study film.

To me, cinema is the ultimate expression of one's imagination. Sure, there are art and literature that also express this desire but what cinema can do that art and literature cannot is appeal to more than one sense. With literature all we can do is read the words on the page but no matter how enamoured we can be by the story the author has told all we can do is imagine everything else. Art on the other hand is more of a visual experience. However with cinema, we are able to fully engage with the filmmakers imaginations as we watch and listen as their vision unfolds. No matter the quality of a film that is true of all of cinema, which is something that I feel is severely forgotten, as everyone has a voice. It warms my heart to see films like Get Out, Wonder Woman, and most recently, Black Panther succeed as they are the products of three very distinct filmmakers with their own creative visions and I cannot stress it enough how important that is. I am a big supporter of different voices getting to express their creative visions and it is clear from the three aforementioned films that it can work incredibly well.

In all honesty I don't think I have a favourite film as there are just so many that I love. I think that would be really hard to narrow that done to one but I do have my favourites that I hold dear to my heart such as Back to the Future or Shaun of the Dead. As long as a filmmaker tells a great story I am up for the ride no matter what the genre or story is. I'll love a superhero movie as much as the next person but I will also gladly sit back and laugh at a comedy. The brilliant thing about cinema is that films are so diverse that you can never really expect what you're going to fall in love with, which is part of the fun, as every filmmaker and genre has the potential to capture our imaginations with their stories. I am astounded by the variety of different films that I have fallen in love with over the past couple of years that are both new and old as my love and knowledge of cinema has grown. It is my goal with this blog to write about these films and shows, and talk about movie news or just about anything that is on my mind in the film business. I can't promise that my content will be very frequent due to my work commitments at university but I will post as often as I can. I'll speak more about my favourite films and filmmakers who inspire me in future blog posts as I think they are topics for another time. Hope you all enjoyed my first post on here and that you come back for more.
